Harrison High School and McCutcheon High School will celebrate the Class of 2023 during commencement ceremonies Sunday, June 4 at Purdue’s Elliott Hall of Music.

About 335 McCutcheon graduates will walk across the stage to “Pomp and Circumstance” at 1 pm. Harrison’s 450 graduates will be honored at 4 pm.

Students in both schools excelled in countless ways during their four years including dual credit courses, advanced placement classes and testing. The students earned Academic Honors Diploma with Distinction, Academic Honors Diploma, Governor's Work Ethic Certification, military enlistment, Indiana Certificate of Multilingual Proficiency and numerous accomplishments in band and choir, drama productions, robotics and in the athletic spectrum.

Principal Gloria Grigsby says 14 valedictorians will speak at graduation. A seat will be left open in memory of classmate Evan Anders who passed away in 2021.

“The Class of 2023 is intelligent, creative and compassionate, and leaves McCutcheon High School a better place,” says Grigsby. “They will find success in their future endeavors by working hard, pursuing their passions, and exemplifying PRIDE (positivity, respect, integrity, determination, and empathy) in their lives. It has been an honor to serve the senior class and I look forward to their contributions to our community.”

Principal Cory Marshall says the Harrison ceremony will include reflections on the Class of 2023 from the class president and 19 valedictorians will share their thoughts on their high school years as well.

Principal Marshall met with the senior class at the start of the school year in August. “My encouragement is always to make this year one full of positive memories that they could smile about and also be proud of at the same time,” says Marshall. “This class has led our building by the example that they set every day. Not only by voice, but by their actions, they provided the positive examples for our underclassmen that are critical to the success of our school, whether that be through academics, athletics, music, or one of our countless other clubs or activities. They are certainly ready for success beyond high school, and I am excited and proud on their behalf as they move to the next phase of their lives.”
